Nestled in the heart of Colorado Springs, Alfonso's Mexican Food is a vibrant gem for lovers of authentic Mexican cuisine, especially those on the hunt for hearty, flavor-packed burritos and classic Mexican comfort food. This Mexican and breakfast restaurant offers a tantalizing menu that will satisfy your cravings whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or a fulfilling meal.
The highlight here is undoubtedly the generous portions and bold flavors. Picture the Lokos Burrito: a colossal creation bursting with layers of savory meat, cheese, and fresh toppings, perfect for those who truly want to indulge. Fans rave about the Carne Asada Fries, a tantalizing plate of crispy sweet potato fries blanketed with tender carne asada, creamy guacamole, zesty sour cream, melted cheese, and vibrant Mexican salsa—each bite a harmony of textures and rich, smoky flavors. If you prefer a classic, the Beef Chimichanga delivers crispiness and deeply satisfying beef filling, while the Super Nachos pile on cheesy goodness and meat, creating a perfect shareable starter or main.
For breakfast lovers, the Breakfast Burrito and Smothered Tamal offer a warm, hearty start to your day, brimming with traditional Mexican ingredients that comfort and energize. Vegetarians aren't left behind either, with options like the Vegetarian Burrito proving that freshness and vibrancy can be just as indulgent.
Alfonso’s is also known for its standout Birria Cup: a rich, flavorful 32oz serving of tender stewed meat accompanied by sides of onion and cilantro, ideal for dipping or enjoying solo. Customers also commend their Carne Asada Supreme Quesadilla Open and the loaded Carne Asada Torta, which showcase the restaurant's mastery of melding traditional Mexican flavors with generous portions.
The atmosphere of Alfonso’s matches its food—unpretentious, welcoming, and efficient. It's a place where locals come often for reliable, satisfying meals that feel like a warm embrace. Fast service pairs with friendly staff, making it a great stop whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or unwinding after a busy day. The environment encourages casual dining, perfect for families, friends, or solo diners who crave a genuine Mexican food experience without fuss.
Customer voices echo the appeal of Alfonso’s: Kat Marijke appreciates the repeat-worthy burritos (though notes their richness), while D L praises the abundant meat and bold flavors across tacos and burritos. Jon Severson highlights the generous portions and authentic flavor that make Alfonso’s stand out amid pricier downtown joints serving skimpy tacos. Several diners also note the consistently great service and value, with L T remarking on the large quesadillas and variety that always satisfy cravings without breaking the bank.
While some find prices slightly higher than typical fast casual Mexican fare, the quality, portion size, and authentic taste more than justify the cost—especially if you’re after that filling, bold bite that only a place like Alfonso’s can deliver.
All said, Alfonso’s Mexican Food provides Colorado Springs with a truly authentic, robust Mexican dining experience where every dish bursts with personality and flavor. Whether you’re in need of a massive burrito, savory tacos, or a comforting breakfast, this local favorite welcomes you with open arms and full plates.

Im on the hunt for the perfect burrito. So far, alfonsos has been our only repeat place. I wish the food were less greasy for the cost.. but if thats what youre going for look no further. The burritos do not travel well.
Everything about this place is solid. If you love meat, not fillers, order the carne asada burrito or any of the tacos!! So delicious! We ordered a Carne Asada burrito, Carne Asada taco, Adobada taco, and Spicy Chicken tostada. Lots of protein and lots of flavor!!
Customer service and great food. In an era when downtown “taco” places are charging $6 for one tiny taco with barely any meat in it or flavor, Alfonso’s has your back with some of the finest Mexican food in town. The Birria tacos are the best I’ve had in Colorado or New Mexico or Texas. Two make me full when those tiny downtown boutique taco joints leave me hungry after 5. This place has always been solid. Been here 22 years and have ate at Alfonso’s a bit in that time. Staff is always friendly even at 2am. The breakfast burritos are fantastic as well. I love eating in because it reminds me what a waste these $200k build outs in fancier restaurants is a sign of so so good. This place has soul and the people who work here and the people who eat here make it a special place every time.
Everything I’ve ever tried is good. They’re fast and polite. Good variety. I eat here often when I’m too lazy to cook but don’t want to spend a lot/go out and eat inside. The bean and cheese burrito is great - simple but great. Taco salads are great. Tacos are great. Enchiladas are great. Never tried anything I didn’t like. Quesadillas are freaking HUGE. Good prices.
Tried this place for the first time. The food was delicious. We got some rolled tacos, the Monster burrito and the Loko burrito. I personally loved the Loko burrito, and it was huge! On the screen you can't see the price of those two though, and they are $13. Overall it was a bit too expensive for Mexican food and I would go back only if I'm really craving rolled tacos inside a burrito.
This place was really good! Nice portions of food and the flavor was amazing. We had grilled chicken tacos and a carne asada plate. Will come back for more!
Food was DELICIOUS! Huge burrito! The taco salad was great! The shell was light and flakey and the sauces tasty. Highly recommend for the food.
